My New Rotation - Technology

Course: 7F1 Science

Today we had our new rotation for Technology. We had to do it online because of the outbreak that happened a few weeks back. The new class that I'm in is Science. Science is actually one of my favourite subjects and it was really interesting to learn the new facts about Science. We also introduced ourselves to our new teacher, Mrs Shamer. I had a great experience and I hope once we meet in real life we would have an even better experience than today. Nevertheless I still enjoyed myself and also learnt a lot of things like vocabulary, and vocabulary is really important.

My Persuasive Speech

Hello everyone. Welcome to my blog if you are new. Today we had to write a persuasive speech, and it could have any topic. I chose to make the topic about animal cruelty and how we can prevent it from enlarging. I hope you enjoy reading my speech. If you can, comment something I could improve on and I will try my best to make it happen.

Greetings everyone. I’m here today to convince you to stop eating meat. That was a joke. What I’m really doing here is to persuade at least a few of you to help spread the word of endangered animals. I think that this topic is really important and we need to talk about what us humans are doing to these innocent animals. Are you interested?

First of all, all animals should be treated with respect, and should be treated the same way humans want to be treated. Where is animal abuse most common in the world, you ask? Well, animals in Asia are among the most abused in the world. From bears captured and caged to dogs and cats slaughtered in horrific ways for their meat. Animal cruelty is getting bad and not even the most powerful people in the world are doing anything about it. This is why I’m writing my speech about protecting animals.

How many animal species are endangered? There are now 41,415 species on the IUCN red list, and 16,306 of them are endangered species threatened with extinction. The IUCN stands for International Union for Conservation of Nature, and this is just a platform related to flora and fauna. This is a huge number of species almost dying out, because of people who can’t help it, but just kill animals for money. People need to take a break from abusing and endangering Earth's plants and animals, and get normal jobs.

How can we prevent more species from ending up in the red list? After a long time of researching I have a list of ways you can help prevent this situation from increasing.

  1. You could learn about endangered species in your area or country.

  2. Create a backyard wildlife habitat. Such as bird baths and food.

  3. Minimize use of herbicides and pesticides. Herbicides and pesticides are hazardous pollutants that can affect wildlife at many levels. Reduce use of fertilizer. Excess fertilizer will likely wash into streams and rivers and may lead to amphibian deformities and deaths.

  4. Establish a pollinator garden with native vegetation in your yard. Native plants provide food and shelter for native wildlife. Attracting native insects like bees and butterflies can help pollinate your plants. Avoid planting invasive species. Non-native plants can overtake and destroy native species on which animals depend.

There are many ways to help, and if you are really committed to this type of situation then you could save a whole species of animals.

Animal cruelty also known as animal abuse is really bad now. People are using them for their meat and fur, and some people are betting on which animal would win in a fight. Another example of animal abuse is where the animal is denied simple necessities such as fresh water, food, shelter or necessary medical attention. Animal abuse needs to stop because the world would be much better if there was no harm to the animals. People such as Scientists test products on animals. They test it on them first to see if it's safe before actually selling the product, and because of this animals (Mostly rabbits) are hurting and dying.

To conclude everything I’ve spoken about today, I hope you’ve learnt a thing or two about how we can prevent animal cruelty from expanding, and also prevent animal species from dying out. We need our animals because without them the food chain would be messed up and other animals wouldn’t have their food and eventually that species would die out too.

My Experience With Pixel Art

Today, my class and I were set a task and we had to finish it before we had our meeting next week Monday. The activity was to create a pixel art using the app called Pixilart, and then make it into a GIF. If you don't know what a GIF is, it's basically a photo but also a video at the same time. If it doesn't seem to make any sense, here is an example of a GIF below. Our teacher told us to make a pixel art based on anything, and I chose to recreate Mr Pringles wearing glasses. This was my first time creating pixelated art and I think I did pretty well. The reason why I chose to draw Mr Pringles is because I was eating pringles and because I love them especially the BBQ flavour. I hope you all enjoy this GIF and hopefully I've inspired a few of you to make one of your own pixel arts. My favourite part of creating this piece of art, was adding the glasses and the hearts.

Technology

Today in Technology we dished up some chop suey. It was very flavourful and it had the right amount of soy sauce. We also had some rice together with the chop suey, in my opinion I think the rice made the salt a lot more less overpowering. My favourite part of cooking this dish is mixing all the ingredients together and knowing that it's almost done cooking. I also enjoyed cleaning our cooking station because I love doing the dishes, and seeing that everything is neat and tidy. Below this blurb are the ingredients and method on how to make chop suey.

Ingredients:

  • Any type of meat
  • 1 Tbsp of lime juice
  • 8 chopped green beans
  • 1 diced onion
  • 1/2 diced red capsicum
  • Cooking oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp of crushed ginger and garlic
  • 1/2 brocoli (cut into bite size pieces)
  • 2 Tbsp of soy sauce
  • Vermicelli
  • 1/2 cup of water
Method:
  • First, add your oil into the pan and then add the onions. Leave it there to fry until golden brown.
  • Next, add the crushed ginger and garlic and also the lime juice. Then mix it together. Add the meat into the pan and give it a little stir, then leave it to cook.
  • After that, once the meat it fully cooked, add the cooked vermicelli into the pan. Mix it together and let it cook for a little bit.
  • Then pour in all your chopped and diced vegetables and stir it up. After mixing it, pour in the 1/2 cup of water.
  • Once it is all cooked and mix together, add the soy sauce and that will make the vermicelli brown, it will also give the chop suey some flavour and salt.
  • Now that it's all done you can serve it to anyone during any occasion, it doesn't only have to be on special occasions, but anytime. Enjoy!

Earth Science - Form

This term my class and I are learning about the Earth. Yesterday we were earning about where Lava comes from and about the layers of the Earth. Below this blurb is a Google Form that I have created, and feel free to fill it in. The Form is Earth related and a few questions are new Vocabulary words that I've learnt. My favourite part of learning about the Earth is the layers. I've learnt all the layers of the Earth and it was interesting and easy to learn. Please feel free to fill in the Form and review your experience in the comments.

Self Defence Course

Today and Yesterday, the girls from both room 6 and 7 went to take a Self Defence Course. It took place in room 12, and because no one used that class, we could use that space up for the course. We had a wonderful lady and her name is Audrey. Yesterday we had her for the whole day, and in one day we have covered a lot of things like the hammer punch. The hammer punch is like a normal punch but the side with the pinky on the end is the side you use to hit the nose area. This punch is powerful and should only be used if you are in a dangerous situation. Every time before she taught us the moves, she told us a quick little story about girls that have been in dangerous and difficult situation. A few of these stories I can not share because the people that have told Audrey the stories, told Audrey that they don't want it to be shared with the public. After all of the moves and skills that she has taught us she gave us a sheet that had all the skills that we've learnt with her. At the back of the sheet we had to trace our hand with a felt and write the safe adult or adults that are close to you or in your community. Today we went over the same moves again because a few girls didn't come yesterday and came today. It was really fun to learn how to protect yourself. At the end Audrey was kind enough to give each and every one of us a certificate, and to me that was an accomplishment. My favourite part of this course were the stories she had told us because they were all very interesting and we all learnt knew things. I really enjoyed my time with Audrey and all the things she has taught us, and for that I would really like to have her again in College.

Olympic 2020

In the slide above is a slide about The Olympic Medalist. If you didn't know, the olympics were held in Tokyo Japan. The olympics is when each country has their own national team to represent them in the olympics. In New Zealand we have won 20 medals in total, and that is the best we have done in all the past olympics. We placed 13th out of all of the nations that participated. In the slide I have inserted pictures of the mealist and wrote down a little blurb about the effort they put in and a little more about their olympic history.
